Move a sales opportunity forward

Track a conversation, plan the follow-up, and turn a won opportunity into a client.

Before you start

You need permission to manage Sales pipeline to add or change opportunities. No external account is required for a manually entered opportunity. Confirm the company is not already in the pipeline before adding it.

Add the opportunity

  1. Open Sales pipeline and search for the company or contact.
  2. Select Add opportunity and enter the company, contact details, service interest, and other information you know.
  3. Set the current stage, owner, expected close, and follow-up details where available, then save.
  4. Open the saved record. Use Stage and Owner to keep responsibility and progress current.
  5. Under Next steps, select Task, add the specific follow-up, and choose who will do it and when. Use Note in Opportunity activity to record useful conversation context.

Review the pipeline

Switch between Table and Board to review your pipeline. Stages run from New lead through Qualified, Discovery, Proposal, Negotiation, Won, and Lost. Turn on Show won and lost when you need closed opportunities.

Treat the stage as the state of the conversation. A proposal in progress is not a signed agreement, and moving an opportunity to Won should reflect a reviewed business decision.

Convert a won opportunity

If an opportunity disappears, clear filters and enable closed opportunities. If conversion reports a failure, check whether a client was already created before trying again.

  1. Select Won and review the conversion’s company, contact, owner, and agreed work.
  2. In the conversion dialog, choose Create a new client or link an existing client.
  3. Review the initial client status and any available billing schedule fields against the agreed terms.
  4. Select Convert to client and open the resulting client record to verify the relationship.
